Volkswagen Touran in the States

I've spotted this car driving around Herndon, VA about three times now, but this is the first time I've caught it on camera. This is less than a mile from VWoA headquarters, but surprisingly, it's not a VWoA car. It never stops at HQ, and doesn't have HQ plates. It doesn't have diplomat plates either. So how is this thing registered in Virginia?

My parents drove a manual TDi version of this (at least I think it was this) over in Germany in 2011. Loved it.

More likely a Routan. Just swap the placement of the "t" and the "r."

It's too old to be of any interest of for VWoA. This gen is at least 5 or 6 years old. Next time you see it, would you mind involving it in some minor fender bender to get the full story? You know, take one for the team.

Doesn't look like it to me, VW made a statement not too long ago they've discontinued the Routan, which was pretty much a rebadged Grand Caravan.

Yes, I know; I happen to work for VW.

I'm not saying that the car was registered yesterday. This is an older Touran, and was probably registered several years ago, when the Routan was still in production.

I've seen a VW Sharan in Las Vegas but it was probably a test mule. Was the Touran sold in Canada, maybe the owner emigrated?

THAT CAR!!!!

I live in Virginia Beach and that exact car was getting a service the same time I was, It had hubcaps (ones I've never seen here) when I saw it but I remember the stickers. I work on a military base where I get to see so many unique cars, I frequently see a new body style Ford focus WAGON, a Citroen Picasso, a VW TDi Golf Cabrio, a Mercedes B200 CDI and many other things.... the trend is the service members deploy, buy a car over seas, can't bring themselves to sell it and they end up just bringing it back with them.
